Trieste "Ronchi dei Legionari" Airport is about 25km north-west of Trieste. From there you can take the APT bus service to the centre of Trieste - Line 51, tickets are available from the blue machine just beyond the arrivals gate. Note that this service runs much less frequently at weekends.
The cost is around 5€.
You can also take a taxi from the airport to Trieste.
The cost is aorund 50€.
A good option, especially during weekends, can be Go Opti.
GoOpti is a fast growing demand responsive transportation marketplace startup, providing innovative matching of passengers for shared and private transfers between airports and remote towns /cities.
Go Opti (from neighbour airports)
The Venice Airports (Marco Polo and Treviso) are another option for coming to Trieste. From there you'll need to take the coach service (tickets available from the ATVO service desk at the airport foyer) to Venezia Mestre train station.
The price is around 10€.

ATVO Bus Service​
From Mestre train station you need to take a train (without change) to Trieste Centrale.
Two possibilities are available: Regionale Veloce (~2h) or Frecciarossa (~1h40min).
The price for Regionale Veloce is 13€, while for Frecciarossa is 27€ (but discounts can be found).

SISSA is the International School for Advanced Studies and is located 5 km from the city centre, on the hills above Trieste.
In order to reach it, you need to take the 38 bus from via Galatti (opposite the Birreria Forst) next to Piazza Oberdan (every 20 minutes). Get off the bus at the last stop, right outside the main SISSA gate. Tickets are available from news kiosks (and not on board!). You can buy a single ticket, a carnet of 10 tickets or a monthly pass. Validate your ticket once on board the bus. Takes about 15 minutes.
The best bus to reach it from the train station is line 8.
There are no buses taking directly to Piazza Oberdan, but line 8 is taking close. Other lines are also possible, like for example line 9.
